Food Around the World

Statistics reveal that food around the world has undergone drastic change over the years. And each country has a particular type of food habit which originated either due to necessity or due to change in food tastes and affordability. There is another trend that has been observed. Reports suggest that the calorie consumption throughout the world has increased manifold. This means that more and more people are turning to proteins, fats and carbohydrates. And the grains, cereals etc are becoming infrequent food options for many.

Food around the world – A wide range of dishes to choose from

You will come across a wide variety of dishes from around the globe. Let us find out some of the favorite dishes. These are not main course dishes but can be consumed at any time of the day.

1. Plato Tipicos – El Salvador Dish
Plato Tipicos is a dish that belongs to El Salvador. The main components of this dish include salsa and casamiento (rice as well as black beans in onion sauce). You can have it as breakfast or any time of the day.

2. Huevos Motulenos – Mexican Dish
This is a Mexican dish which is eaten mainly for breakfast. Huevos Motulenos has its roots in the Yucatan Peninsula. The dish consists of 2 eggs on fried tostada coupled with tomatoes, peas, black beans, ham, queso freco and platano maduros.

3. Ful Medames – Egyptian Delicacy
Ful medames is Egyptian food and is eaten along with bread. This is a traditional dish. In this the fava beans are slowly cooked. It is served with olive oil, onion, chopped parsley, lemon juice and garlic.

4. Spiced Chicken – Indian Dish
This is typical Indian food which is spicy and hot. This is cooked in sunflower oil. It is prepared making use of chicken breasts, onions, quinoa, tomatoes that are chopped, chicken stock, chopped coriander leaves, salted cashews etc.

5. Natto on Rice and Miso Soup – A Japanese Dish
One of the most consumed food around the world; natto on rice is made of fermented soy beans (natto), and miso soup. This dish can be consumed with green tea. This is a Japanese dish

6. Appam- Get a Taste of Sri Lanka
Appam is widely consumed in the Southwestern parts of India and Sri Lanka. These are bowl shaped pancakes. Served with eggs, spicy sauce coconut cream or honey, the pancakes are made up of fermented rice.

7.Turkish Tarhana – A Dish From Turkey
Turkish Tarhana is a delicacy of Turkey. You can have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is fermented. It also consists of a dried combination of vegetables, cracked wheat and yoghurt. A combination of the above is made into thick soup and consumed.

8. Nasi Lemak – Malaysia Beckons
Nasi Lemak is Malaysia’s national dish. It can be eaten for breakfast. This dish consists mainly of roasted peanuts, coconut rice, anchovies, cucumber, and eggs that are hard cooked and spicy sauce. It is served either on paper or banana leaf.

Although the ingredients used in food around the world vary widely. But each dish has a taste of its own, which is unique and appeals to people differently.
